Mahesh accustomed to play roles as child actor in the films Shankharavam (1987), Bazaar Rowdy (1988), Mugguru Kodukulu (1988) and Gudachari 117 (1989). He made his debut like a lead actor with all the film Raja Kumarudu, directed by K. Raghavendra Rao and co-starring Priety Zinta. It saw success. For this particular film he got Nandi award for best male debut. He acted within the films Raja kularudu, Murari, Takkari Donga, Arjun, Nijam, Athadu, Dookudu, Athadu, and Pokiri. Each one of his film tend not to begin to see the success. A few of his flop films are Sainikudu, Naani, and Aagadu etc.
He won the most effective Telugu actor award at the 59th Filmfare Awards South and 1st South Indian International Movie Awards ceremonies. Mahesh had two releases in 2014, the first one being Sukumar's 1: Nenokkadine.

Mahesh is yet another producer. He owns the development house G. Mahesh Babu Entertainment Pvt. Ltd.
He got married towards the actress Namrata Shirodkar. He has two children Sitara and Gautam Krishna.
