Lost Ark(opens in new Tab) players in Australia and New Zealand are flocking to the game's official forums to request Amazon for servers that are specific to their region in response to issues with latency and long queues at the server.
A request for an Oceania server region first came up in November 2021, a few months prior to the global launch. In a post titled "Please reconsider Oceania Servers"(opens in new tab) user ooglydit wrote "While I'm extremely grateful for the efforts AGS have put into having the region lock removed for Australia & New Zealand, having a dedicated server to our region would go by leaps and bounds toward making this game more fun for us." The reason for the request was concerns over the high ping that occurs when connecting to distant servers. "As as of now we have only two options, which are EU/NA, we're looking at either -250 ping to NA or -300 ping to EU."
It seems like ooglydit's worries were justified. In the moment, the request of Oceania servers is the top post on the Lost Ark forums, with more than 3,000 users responding to the call for a specific server for each region, and the number is growing. As players feared, excessive ping from connecting with distant servers can negatively affect the game experience.
"I can tell I'm not experiencing the satisfaction of my abilities by the delay that occurs between animation and result/impact puts the brakes on the whole experience," writes user Poppleop. Rigeth explains that high ping can put Oceania players at a disadvantage during PvP. "It's also common for the majority of Australians to have a ping of 203ms or more which means that when we are in PVP and have to compete against anyone with 18ms, or better , we'll typically lose 1v1" the players point out.
