Citing an "growing team " and "improved methods", Jagex says it will no longer just be in the business of acquiring gold and resources with RWT but as buyers. The intention is to stem the demand, as well as supply.
Jagex says it will start sending "messages to those we've identified as engaging to engage in"RWT" within "the next few hours". "For those who were involved, we want to make it clear that this is your sole message, and the only one," Jagex added.
Other measures the developer is likely to take as punishments for RWT actions include wealth removal , which is basically removing ill-gotten gains from players' accounts at the server level. Also, potential bans.
RuneScape's PvP feature, which is known as"the Duel Arena, will also have stricter rules in place. Jagex declares that the feature "has been a catalyst for this kind of shady behavior", and that 38 per cent of all bans against RWT activity up until now originate from this aspect which the players play. It says that already amounts in "thousands of bans every month".
So, the developer seems to be choosing the nuclear approach, stating that "we're looking in the long-term to take this Duel Arena out of RuneScape entirely." In the meantime the game will take "some quick-term measures" to improve PvP "until our team of developers can release an update major enough to completely eliminates Duel Arena next year."
These will include a cap at the maximum amount GP (or gold points) which players can stake on an event at the Duel Arena. Players can wager "no more than 50m GP for each duel". Further measures have not been elaborated on yet.
