First released back in 2013 in 2013, the PS4 has since become one of Sony's most successful consoles but also one of the top-selling gaming platforms ever. Despite this, Sony is now looking to sell the PS5 as the primary hardware, meaning the PS4 is naturally coming to an end. Thanks to the latest guidance from Sony, we have an idea of the date when the PS4 will officially go away.
Outlined in Sony's latest budget presentation, it made clear that games for PS4 will be gone by 2025. However, this doesn't mean that the old PS4 games will no longer be available for purchase. However, Sony has clearly stated that it will finish releasing new games for the platform by this time.
However, by 2025 Sony has projected that the majority of its earnings for games will come from PlayStation 5, with titles that run on PC and mobile devices also contributing in the other half of its profits.
The overall picture surely shouldn't come as a surprise considering that the PS5 will be Sony's primary priority in the years to in the years to come. It's worth noting that at this very moment it's the PS4 is a platform Sony is manufacturing and releasing games for. In fact, the most anticipated PlayStation games, God of War Ragnarok, is still expected to release on PS4 as soon as it's released.
