It's true that I miss a lot of the grind and longer-term involvement (and pain) that is RuneScape. In its third edition as 'RuneScape3' (from 2013) with additional content and a graphic change, there's a bit of hope that I'll revisit it just to see what's happening, much as I would an old friend.
Publisher Jagex made it clear earlier this year that RuneScape will release early access on mobile sometime in the summer. Starting today, anyone can play the long-running MMORPG playing on iOS as well as Android.
RuneScape is free-to-play, though players can access more challenges, skills and bonuses. It is possible to test the membership at no cost with a an initial seven-day trial. Mobile versions allow the cross-play feature and cross-progression to PC This means that you can jump between platforms and carry on from where you were when you quit.
Note that this will not be Old School RuneScape, a version based off a build from 2007. The game has been available for download both iOS and Android from 2018. This is the full-blown RuneScape that Jagex has been continuously improving over the past 20 years.
There's an obvious demand for RuneScape on iOS in addition to Android. The game has more than 1.8 million players have registered for the respective versions that feature user interfaces that are mobile-friendly and have new menus, icons, text and textures. Combat mechanics were also improved for iOS as well as Android.
