From Old School RuneScape offering players the the classic 2006 experience and the short-lived DarkScape giving players more PvP-based experience. Developer Jagex has teamed up with board game creator Steamforged Games to release not only two tabletop games in the year of 2022.
Steamforged Games' partnership with Jagex is the latest in a long string of collaborations bringing some of the biggest gaming franchises into a tabletop. The tabletop gaming juggernaut produced board games based on games like Monster Hunter World and Dark Souls and has just completed the most successful Kickstarter campaign for a Resident Evil 2 board game with over 1 million pounds raised earlier this year.
Now, the game developer has set its sights on the world of Gielinor and RuneScape with plans to release two board games and a book on the tabletop role-playing game's core in the coming year. The two RPG adaptations will have many of the most well-known characters from RuneScape and locations, allowing a group of up to five players to compete against classic quests from RuneScape in addition to bringing the adventures within The world of Gielinor to the home of Gielinor.
Players will be able to craft and upgrade their equipment. They can also interact with NPCs as well as take on various side-quests inspired by classic MMORPG. The board game will go live through a Kickstarter campaign later this year while the core tabletop RPG book is set to be released in stores directly.
The core book for tabletop RPGs will be notably compatible with tabletop RPGs of massive size Dungeons and Dragons Fifth Edition core books, which will allow dungeon masters to seamlessly incorporate elements of RuneScape into their games.
Jagex Chief Executive Officer Phil Mansell was optimistic about the project , expressing his excitement regarding his enthusiasm for the Kickstarter program "involving those from RuneScape players," however Steamforged CCO Mat Hart believed the "rich RuneScape universe is going to translate beautifully" into a tabletop world.
