Before Blizzard made WOW WOTLK Classic Gold a whole realm, Warcraft was always about two fantasy action figures fighting one with each other. Orcs and human. Horde and Alliance. While World of Warcraft has had the opposing factions team up in the past in order to defeat major villains, they've not succeeded in doing so as a permanent function of the grouping system of the MMO. In the coming week's World of Warcraft Classic patch 9.2.5 This will change.
Horde as well as Alliance players can join the same group, and complete the same dungeons and raids and team together to fight PvP, either using matchmakers for the respective factions or inviting them via BattleTags. There are some limitations for pre-made groups: they are able to switch over to cross-faction playoff, and Guilds are locked by faction, and a short list of older instances won't be able to support the feature. Otherwise, the factions that were at each other's throats for years in terms of narrative (and less socially as time goes on) are now able to cooperate on the content of the endgame.
"At BlizzCon in 2019. in response to a question from a conference attendee about cross-faction play, we responded in the moment that "Alliance as well as Horde distinction ... is an important element that makes Warcraft, Warcraft'," World of Warcraft game director Ion Hazzikostas wrote in a blog post. "But on reflection, this is an oversimplification: Alliance as well as Horde identity is what is the most important thing about Warcraft. Although at times that identity has been one of conflict and division, we've seen Alliance and Horde coming to a common understanding and working together ever from Warcraft 3 (notably including the most recent time that an Warcraft Chapter was named "Eternity's End ...), along with the numerous instances of cooperation in World of Warcraft itself are too numerous to count."
Patch 9.2.5 goes live on Tuesday, May 31. The patch also comes with a list of other changes as well as the introduction of a brand new arena for PvP called the Enigma Crucible. Like the other arenas available in the game they're a mostly an asymmetrical arena for groups of players to compete in the most competitive version of PvP.
