He goes on to say: "While the numbers and stats stuff isn't what all players really enjoy about MMOs However, it's what the majority of fans gravitate towards once the exploration is done. Because it's so integral to what the most long-term players are focused on it makes sense to integrate this feature as a core part of Melvor's game's design. Furthermore, it blends perfectly with the design elements that are common to most idle games."
While he took inspiration from other MMOs but the design is the main focus of RuneScape was one that he was particularly attentive to, laying an entire world based on Melvor Idle to create a universe that is a sequel to the 20 years old RPG. "RuneScape was such a key touchstone for the game because it was such a crucial game for me," the author explains."
Like many, I started playing RuneScape because a lot of my friends at the time had it. The fact that it was an online game was a major factor in this. That easy entry point combined with RuneScape's branching depth and complexity was what attracted me back to it for quite a while and is what I've always wanted to emulate with Melvor Idle."
With Malcolm quite open about his inspiration, word soon reached Jagex that a fan was building a game based off its own MMO. Staff members reported it to management, with the director of management of products Chris Pfeiffer telling us his team was impressed by "how much had been achieved and how well it aligned in a way with RuneScape."
"The goal of Melvor Idle is in tune with our primary values of what makes an actual game it was a perfect fit to us" the CEO says. "Furthermore, the thought that we could give someone in the community an opportunity has really enthused everyone in the business."
Pfieffer and his coworkers Pfieffer and his colleagues tried Melvor Idle for themselves and they were impressed enough to reach for Malcolm Pfieffer to talk about the prospect of working together in early 2021.
