Admins of only one big pserver were captured selling gold/ranks. It got ruined after this, shutting down their income for a short time. I think it's not all the other pservers"didn't get caught" - that they just don't do so, it is too risky. There are strategies to profit a pserver without alienating the playerbase from the dishonest stuff.
Ye, I may be idealistic, but I really do believe there exist decent people. Additionally, there exist individuals passionate about the sport. There also exist individuals that are familiar with their business model who will not cheat for larger profits.
I had a good time playing pservers. I also saw the amount of effort they put into bugfixing, core development, banning robots, general support.
The two points were always a whole lot more energetic than in Classic... You really shouldn't hate on them if you do not understand the circumstance.
Personal servers are Free and thus can ban at will. Start banning rmt on wow and you also eliminate a huge quantity of revenue.
