It is a logical decision by EA. Even if they are only after political factors. The NFL and Madden have a large African American fandom, combined with being basically a US exclusive product with minimal global appeal. Perhaps not the best time to drop advice when one of the biggest demographics & just market is on literal fire. From an advertising/marketing stage, theyve done this numerous times (smaller scale) for Battlefront 2. The CM said theyre looking to create the most spalsh as possible. If people are outside protesting = less viewers. And more importantly, lower online engagement. On most social media it is impossible to discuss anything but the protests right now. They need people speaking about the reveal but that would be spelled out by the much bigger news right now.
Yeah, but they might have just as easily said"because of growing pressures" or even postponed without mentioning anything. Picking a side of the fence means probably alienating some investors, board members, partners and clients. Consumers watch EA for some of the dumb shit they do with games that they develop and publish, but they don't see what they do for causes such as equality and workplace diversity (they have actually been awarded in numerous years).
They're actually super progressive internally and should be commended on that. It is simple to be skeptical about this kind of thing, but they could just have easily prevented making a statement. Yo, thanks for sharing that information. That is awesome on EA's part. No matter how folks feel about their matches we should commend them for their progressive actions. I am surprised that I'm just NOW hearing about this. I truly want the gambling community would step up and start caring a lot more about things like this.
Same could happen if it was Epic or Activision. If CDPR, Valve or some other cherished company did exactly the same, comments would be wholly different. Edit: Sony did the exact same and the overall reception on those remarks are largely positive. Stay fresh, Reddit. I really don't think so. If their main customer base is African American is does not make sense to advertise to them right now. As they won't be spending right now, as games is not on there heads right now. Not about respect imo. More or less they're not moving to the stores immediately to make purchases. A nice gesture, but are not these the very same men and women who dared Colin Kaepernick's title out of a song in a few of the previous Madden games?
I will preface this by saying I don't think it's a terrible thing for them to bring awareness to the situation. It's significant that it can not only be ignored by taking a look from it. With that said, I really do possess a certain amount of distrust towards multi-billion buck multinational corporations paying lip service to important social issues. Of course, as a philosophical business they are under no duty to do so, and it rings hollow when they try to stand in solidarity with the ordinary men and women. Currently there are companies out there that do things and this is the time to emphasize those attempts; to demonstrate they're more than just words.
