Making battle a lot easier to get By now you should have seen all sorts of information regarding the action bar and how you'll have the ability to construct your own set of switches for key combat attributes. Importantly, you'll also be able to map every on-screen button to your own keyboard. You will be able to drag stripes, gear, prayers (such as the quick prayer button). . .pretty much anything, actually. Food you eat through the action bar will keep removing food out of the inventory until you are out of the food type; same with potions. We're totally redesigning the charm novel too, making it significantly simpler to use, and adding combat-specific skills to their own ability publication!
We've also improved the display of weapon stats. When you mouse-over a bit of gear, you're going to find a tooltip that will let you know its stats, and will colour-code any increases or declines to your battle statistics - very handy when dealing with new equipment. We're also altering the way that combat levels are computed. We're scrapping the current 138 max layout and substituting it with a calculation that is far easier to comprehend: X + Defence level +2 = your Combat level. (X = your greatest stat level from Magic, Ranged, Attack or Strength).
This produces the new max battle level 200! We are making this change purely because working out your Combat level is, at current, complicated and confusing, for new and seasoned players alike. We're removing any impact on your Combat level from Prayer, Summoning and Constitution levels. While they have a very clear and desirable result, trying to signify that at the Combat level calculation is complex and isn't really necessary. Encouraging challenging fights.
We don't want to flip RuneScape into something
This is only one of the largest areas of change in the Evolution of Combat update. In PvE combat we are rebalancing all NPCs in the game to better suit players of equivalent level. For most NPCs, this means giving them ranged and magical strikes to situate them more clearly on the combat triangle. The majority of the monsters you fight within the sport at this time use basic melee attacks only, and rarely involve the necessity to use something other than your very best weapon. All that will change as we'll encourage you to understand the advantages and weaknesses of every monster (all shown very clearly about the battle side panel, wherever your stab/slash/crush/special assault buttons used to be) and to find out the best combat method and equipment to use them against.
