"It is no secret that EA's Madden NFL franchise has had a monopoly on football video games for years, even years," reads the introduction of the review of this match. "If you like football, you play Madden, and there's not really another decision. Unfortunately for gamers, EA has seemingly taken advantage of that fact as of late, churning out a near-carbon copy of the same game every autumn, only with new players and evaluations. The lack of changes has been infuriating, to say the very least, particularly when there isn't another choice on the market. This year, at least, the folks at EA are finally listening. In general, it's very enjoyable, and it is fun thinking you've produced a new fundamental, or meta-strategy, for a brand of football which doesn't exist anyplace else. Figuring out how to pull off the midair lateral -- by which a receiver immediately shoves the ball to a nearby teammate, like a volleyball player setting the ball was a enjoyable breakthrough. Obviously, then I abused this trick enough that I would frequently lose ownership, or bat the ball back to a player behind the line of scrimmage for no fantastic reason.
Perhaps not using a"normal" season, or threatening all of the normalcy that an NFL Sunday has come to signify, makes this season if a more oversized, less realistic variant of the sport can carry the banner ads. In real life, there's enough doubt about how the regular season will proceed that it is a real head slap watching a Madden game begin with the full-bore presentation of an NFL Sunday (particularly if Gaudin cites"the Washington Football Team"). I often wonder if I'll see even a fifth of that in actual life. It is not a fantastic sense; the idealized presentation of football inside a planet without COVID-19 attracts more pain than relief.
The smaller-scale, messin'-about, fewer-expectations air of this Yard -- and the arcade-like Superstar KO challenge mode, which yields from Madden NFL 20 -- is most likely where I will spend the majority of my time. That's especially true whenever the NFL itself can not be expected to supply a true comparison, where I could judge how good my out-of-nowhere star or underdog team really is. Racking up trendy equipment and other vanities as I progress through Your Yard's XP process is, I admit, a solid motivator to keep me playing.
Madden NFL 21, then, is a lot like a very best friend in the time of social distancing: somebody that I desperately want to see and spend some time with, except doing so also recalls how much we have ever lost over the previous five months. Of all of the video games which may embody or allegorize the turmoil of present-day America, it is somewhat startling to find Madden NFL 21 at the very top of my list.
