They probably discussed matters with SEGA about how to deal with these names so that it'll be constant when cheap PSO2 Meseta drops for Western palyers next year. However, I agree, it's odd. Especially when there's a little disconnect between the sound and subtitles, such as when they yell"Code D!" Funny.I was wondering exactly what titles were changed. I checked the remarks yesterday early and individuals made it look like all the character names were changed or something. Do you think Falspawn is the official name in Phantasy Star Online 2 or something?
Nah was Falspawn that I thought was a decent choice. I guess a good deal of the criticism was with how particular names were spelled, such as Seana, Gettemhult, etc.. That isn't a big deal as the pronunciation kinda makes sense and kinda stays true to the original Japanese titles. I am overall kinda satisfied with the translation options for the names.Pretty jarring as well because the Audio clearly said Darkers and D-Factor lol. Naberius gets a pass since it's pretty near sound wise, but still strange as a player I would say.
I was expecting all of the planet titles to be different from what I'm used to. The character names are proving to be a bit more difficult to adjust to, in addition to like you said about the audio/subtitle disconnect.
Like the Vopar - Wopal change I guess that the v in Naverius was really intended from the start but it's b in the fan translation because in Japanese a v is usually represented by a b noise unless the Japanese really bothers to spell it correctly in katakana. But they rarely do cause they frequently don't know the gap to the point of believing English words really using b that come up in Western are in fact written with a v initially, sometimes resulting in a fairly awkward Engrish.
