A US court has ruled against a Runespace coating who alleged that their human rights were infringed by programmer Jagex. After being muted in game, Pennsylvanian Amro Elansari discovered that Runescape Mods refused his first appeal without further supporting explanation. Because of this, most of us might vote with our wallet and move game but Amro decided that the tens of thousands of hours he placed into his accounts justified a more serious response. Electing to skip a forum ranthe also issued a law suit which you may find over on the US court's online archives.
Unfortunately for this participant his case, and the following appeal, were refused. This is not the first time we've seen a game company sued, or really sue a player. Fortnite has been a hotbed of lawsuit with Epic resorting to legal actions over youtube cheaters and parents litigating against precisely the same game's Lama Loot Boxes. Runescape programmers Jagex even resisted the group behind the iBot applications back in 2010, leading to a payout in the domain of six figure for its UK studio.
Despite its age, Jagex has witnessed relatively few court cases linked to its own games. Runescape initially introduced back befoe World of Warcraft exploded onto the scene. It is now on its third complete iteration, has spawned a retro Old School version, and even includes a set of mobile titles. The current launch of Old School Runescape created more than 5 million downlaods and Runesacpe 3 is currently in Ancient Acess on at this time. You may find out all about Runescape's most recent updates over on our coverage of this year's Runeest occasion including dinosaurs and lots of LOOT.
For those of you who I have not met my name is Ed. Years adrift on the internet, running a guild, and analyzing video games, my hand turned. Now, you can discover me squawking across a multitude of sites and even having to play games now and then.
Court: Getting muted in RuneScape does not violate your rights
