I got to have betrayals Maplestory M Mesos and the emotional closeness which other middle schoolers needed in their social cliques, but instead of a school cafeteria, the background was the Maplestory Marketplace. My experiences are only as precious as others' adventures, although my childhood was different, since much of my early socialization happened online. It had been far from a difference. Rather, it was a part of cultivating the individual I am today.
I couldn't decide if I wanted to play MapleStory 2 as it was released in October. I had eagerly anticipated it because its South Korean launch in 2015, but now that it was here, I needed to see whether my boyfriend and friends -- whom I met in the original MapleStory -- wanted to join, so that I would have a guild and people to party up with on quests.
It wasn't long before they seemed exhausted by it. Throughout the beta testing phase so the worlds of Maple were lonesome this May anyone was approved for a beta tester. Then in the weeks leading up to MapleStory 2's global launch, nobody said a word. Nobody cared. That included me -- I planned to spend this winter getting comfortable with my PS4, attempting some novels.
During this time I had been out on vacation for 3 weeks, surfing the web not considering Google or Discord while I had been in China. I may have missed the hype around MapleStory 2 as lovers decided to pick the game up. My obsessions while in China were the purchasing app Taobao and the meals delivery app Meituan, which gets you midnight snacks to get a 2 to 3 RMB service charge ($0.29 to $0.44). Little did I know that my entire Discord horde was busy purchasing founders' packs that grant you extra boosts, designing their small Lego-like houses, buying cute clothes, and upgrading weapons in MapleStory 2.
But after I landed in New York again, I saw my friends had their real names as usernames. Short, crisp, five-letter titles which contain references to Twitch streams ancient anime, and business values. (The last one was my boyfriend, who purchased his founder's account off the black economy after he returned from China, fought to find a username, also settled on using his company's worth of accountability. By looking at his jury duty summons he got his username. Yeah, I know.
