The NBA’s most famous players renewed

The NBA’s most famous players renewed their stringent criticism of Donald Trump on Thursday, with LeBron James calling the President “laughable” and “scary” in a new YouTube clip.

In a video titled Rolling with the Champion,” James and fellow M.V.P. candidate Kevin Durant call out Trump for a perceived lack of leadership.

“The No. 1 job in America, the appointed person, is someone who doesn’t understand the people and really don’t give a fuck about the people,” James says.

“And this time right now, with the president of the United States, it’s [the country] at a bad time,” the Cleveland Cavaliers star continues. “And while we cannot change what comes out of that man’s mouth, we can continue to alert the people that watch us, that listen to us, as this is not the way.”

Durant, the Golden State Warriors small forward, uses basketball as a metaphor for Trump’s Presidency in the video. “When we’re talking about leadership, and what’s going on in our country, it’s all about leadership,” Durant says. “And I learned that from basketball. I learned a lot of life skills from playing basketball. You need to empower people, you need to encourage people. And that’s what builds a great team. And I feel like our team as a country is not run by a great coach.”

As the Huffington Post pointed out, James has been one of several vocal critics of Trump in the NBA. “The guy in control has given people and racism, and negative racism, an opportunity to be out and outspoken without fear,” James said in January while avoiding naming Trump directly. “And that’s the fearful thing for us, because it’s with you, and it’s around every day, but [he] has allowed people to just come out and feel confident about doing negative things.”

Trump said last September that Durant’s Warriors were not welcome to visit the White House as part of the traditional celebrations for a championship-winning team. In response, Warriors point guard Stephen Curry called out the President. "I don't know why he [Trump] feels the need to target certain individuals rather than others,” Curry told ESPN. I have an idea of why, but it's kind of beneath a leader of a country to go that route. That's not what leaders do."
