Murdoch urges solution for stalled Ord irrigation scheme
High profile businessman Lachlan Murdoch has backed a push to kick-start the stalled expansion of the Ord irrigation scheme in Western Australia.
Mr Murdoch is a member of the Prime Minister's task force investigating the potential to create a food bowl for the nation using the water resources of northern Australia.
Speaking from the Ord Valley, Mr Murdoch said the task force had to facilitate how the Western Australia and Northern Territory Governments could speed up the second stage of the Golden Goose Outlet www.goldengooseshoesit.com Ord scheme which has been in limbo for years.
It is almost four years since Western Australia's longest native title claim was settled recognising the rights of the Miriwung Gajerrong people.
The deal was supposed to pave the way for the largest expansion of the Ord scheme, but both the native title holders and the farmers are still waiting.
On the potential for tapping into northern Australia's abundant water resources Mr Murdoch said there needs to be balance.
"In the wet season it's incredible in all sorts of ways, in terms www.goldengooseshoesit.com of the potential and also the beauty and also the environmental importance of it, so I think you've got to balance all those issues," he said.
"Obviously northern Australia is very rich in its water resources and we need to consider how we apply that resource over the next couple of decades."
