"Fortnite," an online shooter using a construction element from Fortnite Items developer Epic Games, is currently one of the world's hottest video games. Popular streamer Tyler "Ninja" Blevins recently broke the record for most concurrent audiences on Twitch (for the second time), topping out at 667,000 viewers.
Although there are no official "Fortnite" tournaments at the moment, Team Secret CEO John Yao said the organization believes Epic Games is going make an esports-related announcement shortly, and it wants to be ready.
"I really had no idea that he was 13 before the team explained," Yao said. "Because if we looked at a few of the movies and we looked at their match play, it wasn't apparent. What instantly stood out to me was how mature he had been, and he sounded like one of those other guys."
Ohio's Ashland University recently announced it is going to be the first faculty in the U.S. to provide scholarships to players.
